The Silverado’s chrome-bisected grille and brawnier square-shouldered quarter panels enhanced the truck’s looks. Its interior design is made even more impressive with Chevy’s fake wood earning higher marks than the Cadillac’s timber.

On the other hand, the entry-level dash fitted to Sierra makes it classy. The seats both the front and back provides great support while the interior’s hush is so quite that no squeak or rattle can be heard. The new cargo bed earned high marks for utility especially since its equipped with a cargo-management system and spring loaded EZ-Lift tailgate. The judges also appreciated the low sides of the bed which makes it easy to reach unlike the cargo boxes found on the Avalanche/Escalade EXT and the current Ford F-150.

The Silverado’s 5.3 liter V8 featured fuel-saving displacement on demand and a clever dash readout that indicates if it’s operating in V4 mode. This boost fuel economy to an EPA rated 16 mpg city/20 mpg for highway. Only the Dodge Ram Hemi is known to offer a similar system however its EPA numbers trail by 1 mpg each.

Some voters also expressed doubts about the overall smoothness of the engine and quality of the four-speed automatic’s shift but judges at Motor Trend has found the drivetrain of the 2.5 ton four-wheel-drive quite reliable in sprinting to 60 mph in a respectable 8.2 seconds which is 0.3 second faster than a rear-drive 5.4 liter Ford F-150 and 0.4 second quicker than the Dodge Ram Hemi 4×4. And that’s not all once loaded with 1050 pound load its sprinting time is only stretched by 1.2 seconds as compared to Ford and Dodge Ram Hemi which took additional 1.3 seconds.

And in a boat towing test conducted the Sierra and the Silverado has showed remarkable toting and towing prowess. The figures obtained by the two GM trucks are just part of the whole story. The Judges were very much impressed with the composure of the Silverado when loaded. The truck didn’t ride down on its bump stops and although its front is a little light the truck didn’t lose control.

A week long testing has satisfied the Motor Trend judges and the result shows that the new GM full-size pickups have earned excellent marks in terms of superiority front and by limiting the price increase to about $300 on most models, the Chevy and GMC faired well when it comes to Value Category. But since only one truck should be voted as winner all the judges have agreed to award the Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year for 2007 to the Chevrolet Silverado.

Let guests put a card or tent on their bed if they want their sheets changed, and have them leave their towels on the floor when they want their towels changed

Tell guests you change sheets every three days (or whatever number you decide is appropriate)

Have guests hang a card on the outside of their guestroom door when they want to have their sheets and towels changed

The reason I most like the last option is multifold. People tend to follow the path of least resistance and effort. Since it takes extra effort to make a request, your guests are less likely to make a request for changing sheets. Housekeepers can more efficiently tackle their work by taking a quick inventory of how many door hangars there are, grab only as many sheets and towels as they will need each day, and get to it.

The option of deciding how often you are going to change sheets is also viable, though you may end up deciding to change sheets more often than many of your guests would request. Of course, you would allow your guests to request a more frequent change, but the policy is clear for the guests and housekeepers. This option might even be more efficient for housekeepers because their daily work list will be able to tell them which rooms need fresh sheets, letting them skip the step of tallying door hangars.

Tallying your savings from your towel/sheet reuse program, you will save $3250.00 – $4,532.50. You’ll also save your own time from shopping for sheets and towels as often. Cameras don’t take pictures – people do.

So where do you start? Well how about right back to the basics of composition. In this article I will outline some of key elements that can create a pleasing photograph every time. The ‘rules’ that follow are simply tried and tested ways that help make a photograph stand out from the crowd.

But don’t be afraid to break the rules. Some of the finest photography in the world breaks the rules. But you need to know the rules first before you break them.

1: The Rule of Thirds

Take any picture and divide it into thirds, top to bottom and then side to side. This should create a grid of 9 boxes – three along the top and also three down the sides.

Any picture or photograph should have one or more key elements. For example a river scene may have a boat sailing along or a sunset may include a silhouetted tree. For maximum visual impact these key elements should be positioned in the picture where two of the grid lines cross. That is a third in from one of the side and a third in from either the top or bottom.

Try this out. Your camera may well have an option to show this grid pattern in the view finder or viewing screen as you line up to take the shot. Take one shot with the key element centre screen and one positioned on the grid. Ask your friends or family which one they prefer without telling why. I bet they’ll choose the latter.

2: Lead in Lines

It’s a strange thing, but our minds need to be told what to do. Image a photograph taken in the middle of a park, some way from the edge, and the main subject is a beautiful fountain some distance away. That could be so that you can include its spray.

Have any of you been to the Jet d’Eau in Geneva? My personal favourite place in Europe, it’s a fantastic water jet that rises hundreds of feet in the air and you need to take that from a long way away!

Taking a straight shot of our park fountain would leave a large expanse of uninteresting grass in the foreground that really means nothing and our eyes wander around the picture wondering what we should really be looking at.

Move yourself to one side and find the pathway that leads up to the fountain. Position the start of the path, in your picture, in one corner. Your eyes will naturally follow the path ‘into’ the picture and be lead to your main focus, the fountain.

Look out for helpful lead in lines, they are everywhere. Paths, roads, flower beds, river banks, quaysides, railings furrows across a field. Just move around until you find one.

3: Frame your Photograph

In the last rule I told you that the mind needs guidance when it looks at pictures. It can wonder in all direction, even of the page, if we don’t tell it what to do.

Landscape photography, done well, can be very rewarding. Standing there admiring the view we are compelled to hold the up camera and take a shot only to be disappointed with the result when we get home.

The camera only records part of the whole scene and our eyes naturally want to look beyond the confines of the frame to see what else is ‘over there’.

To avoid this almost incomplete appearance to the shot we need to stop the eye going out of the picture by doing something to tell it ‘this is the end of the picture here’.

One of the simplest ways to achieve this effect is to find something solid to include at the edge of the frame. A tree is always a useful addition here. Make sure that you can’t see both edges of the truck and the brain just decides that there is nothing to see beyond that tree. Very effective and frames the photograph well.
