June 25, 2010 - 10:22 am Comments Off

Sterling is a secondary company of Freightliner LLC. Sterling trucks have long held the reputation of being conventional. This popular trucking company specializes in manufacturing vocational trucks which are typically used for jobs other than straight freight hauling. The company’s line-up of trucks have been used as fire trucks, garbage trucks, dump trucks, school buses and other commercial or public vehicles in this category.

Currently Sterling is the only OEM or original equipment manufacturer that offers a full line of trucks that range from classes 3 through 8. Although they do manufacture heavy duty and freight hauling trucks their major contribution to the trucking industry comes in the form of concrete mixers, cranes, street sweepers and the other commercial vehicles listed above. Many government offices throughout the United States depend on Sterling to produce efficient, cost-friendly and dependable vehicles for their needs.

The name for the company was actually used originally by an independent truck manufacturer and then bought by the White Motor Company in 1953. Two years later the name was retired and laid dormant until Daimler-Benz subsidiary Freightliner LLC decided in 1998 to take it to go along with the Ford blue oval on the AeroMax Series of trucks. Since that time the Sterling name has made quite a resurrection producing a multitude of heavy to medium purpose trucks. The company headquarters is currently located in Detroit, MI. The more conventional trucks however are manufactured in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada. The company’s truck line-up is currently being sold in Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand as well as in the United States.

There are many reasons that these trucks remain one of the In this country, the highest level of options for the driver. Rural Wireless Internet Solutions

June 24, 2010 - 10:19 am Comments Off

Rural internet access presents problems that more urban computer users can only dream about, in nightmares that is. I have struggled for years using only a dial-up connection and struggle it was. But no longer, since this little box has moved into the house.

Believe it or not, there are still quite a few locales where only dial-up is available rather than DSL or cable. And in some places like where I live the telephone equipment leaves much to be desired too. Rain causes the lines to do all kinds of things.

So the only options are either a satellite service which is a popular option or a system using one of the cell phone companies. Verizon works well here so that was the choice.

What I chose was the Verizon Wireless MiFi2200 receiver. This little card, which is what it looks like, not only can receive without wires, it also can transmit without wires too. In fact, it can work with up to 5 devices at a time. It’s just like having your own hot spot right at home.

It comes with a plug in charger and will also operate on the internal battery. In addition, you can plug it to the computer using a USB cable to operate off the computer power. That seems to be a different connection based on the information displayed on the computer.

Verizon supplies a software download which serves as a dashboard for managing the wireless system. The software lets you track usage as well as access statistics about the connection.

So far service has been satisfactory, with usually a strong indicated signal. Speed is perceived as very fast at times and not as fast at others.

I did almost immediately have a battery charger problem and contacted Verizon by phone. The lady who helped me was very cordial. I decided to take the unit to a local Verizon store for repair or replacement. The problem was quickly identified and fixed.

This little Verizon wireless box has made rural internet much more usable for this heavy computer user. Productivity has increased dramatically with the computer.

Bed liner for pickup – good?

June 24, 2010 - 10:19 am Comments Off

Bed liners for pickup trucks cushion and protect a truck bed and prevent expensive damage. The price for doing this varies widely and so does the effectiveness of the different liner options. The obvious first choice for a liner is the spray on bed liner. Other options offer advantages though as you see if you read on.

Spray on liners offer a guarantee for life which certainly has value. But have you thought that the guarantee simply means the liner will be repaired, or sprayed again? It does not imply that the liner cannot be damaged. In fact, it can be and likely will be with hard use. Spray liners are very tough coatings but are still, after all, paint coatings.

You may be tempted by the do it yourself bed liner paint option. Put one on and the cost is only a fraction of the professional version. We did it and the resulting surface looks very much like the spray coating. Beware though. It is much thinner and thus less durable. No guarantee comes with a coating you put on either. That’s mostly because careful surface preparation must be done or the paint will peel. The do it yourself option makes good sense though on battered older trucks since you get a useful coating for just a little money and time.

Have you considered plastic bed liners? For really hard use, the plastic linings can stand up to serious abuse. Especially if you want protection from impacts which make dents, a drop in bed liner works. The cost of entry makes them look like a bargain too. Just make sure you get a good fit or the wind passing over the liner will make it sing and move. The noise can be annoying but the movement can be worse. A moving plastic liner may wear away paint and make a perfect spot for rust to start.

A final liner option which often gets ignored is the simple rubber truck bed mat. These offer protection only for the bottom of the bed and not for the sides. But the protection for the bottom of the bed equals or exceeds any other option. You can forget about dents below a rubber mat and there is not even a chance of scratches either. That’s why mats over spray on liners, or plastic liners for that matter, offer distinct advantages. And the cost is so low it’s almost free.

Bed liners for pickups offer real protection for a truck bed. Spray on liners provide many advantages, but the cost prices them out for many owners. A do it yourself coating may work if you can use a thinner coat and don’t mind the Work. Beds, as well as damage to the initiative, consistent with plastic film, or to save money is to take a risk. You, as a good rubber to protect the more expensive shirt, wake up.

Float Tube Fishing – the ultimate vacation experience Fly Fishing BC

June 23, 2010 - 10:16 am Comments Off

Personally, there is nothing like relaxing in my float tube catching rainbow trout on my favorite BC fly fishing lake. It’s better than my easy chair in my living room. Yes, belly boating became a mainstay of my fly fishing vacation or day trips back in the late 1990’s when I traded my truck in for a mini-van.

Belly boating or float tubing is a whole new experience. The best thing is how relaxing it can be especially when you have the opportunity to anchor or drift. If you are lucky (and most lakes in the Kamloops area are like this) you will get to witness eagles, ospreys and waterfowl at a closer range because they are less bothered by your intrusion. Wildlife like bear, deer, moose or coyotes often come to waters edge to relieve their thirst.

There are lots of lakes throughout BC that are accommodating to float tube fishing. To make the experience as enjoyable as possible there are a few considerations to review such as access. Access to the lake and on to the lake are probably most important factors when choosing your fishing body of water.

Here are some important factors when considering your belly boating fishing trip. It pays to be prepared when looking for float tube fishing locations.

 1. Prospects – I first decide whether I want lots of fish or big fish. The two are occasionally synonomous however I have learned not to stretch my expectations. I’d rather be surprised. The Kamloops Area and Roche Lake Area in BC have many lakes that have limited bag limits (or even catch and release only). Usually these lakes have trophy sized fish and are harder to catch. However, for the fisherman who likes to eat their catch, there are also many opportunities to catch both many fish and reasonable sized fish.

2. Access to the lake body – we are looking for a smooth, tapering launch. No sense in slogging through mud, rocks and sticks that result in getting stuck in the mud with your fins or damaging your waders or tube. Another consideration is access to the shore from different parts of the lake. Looking after ‘personal business’ requires getting to a landing quickly and peeling down the waders. When the water is cold, this event can spring up on you quickly.

3. Access to prime locations on the lake – the smaller the lake the better. Float tubes are not known for their speed (pontoon boats are quicker) so you want to get to the prime fishing spots (shoals, drop-offs, weed beds) as soon as possible.

4. Susceptibility to wind – Wind is the single most annoying factor while float tubing fishing. You don’t have the advantage of sitting high in a boat and casting distances can be considerably shorter. It is important to me to be able to find some shelter from whatever direction the wind is blowing. Look for odd shaped lakes with sheltered bays. Waves created by wind can also be a challenge when trying to return to your vehicle, so keep this in mind when wandering a long way from your launch site.

5. Vehicle Access to the Lake – paved, gravel or 4×4. The nice thing about a float tube is that it can be easily deflated enough to fit in a car, car trunk or other two-wheel drive vehicle. Many of the lakes in the Interior are quite accessible by 2 wheel drive vehicles. On the other hand, there are no shortage of 4×4 or hike in lakes that are willing to reward the adventurous.

Visit here for a list of some of my favorite float tube fishing lakes in BC.

Sometimes the best carpet work platform

June 22, 2010 - 10:15 am Comments Off

Truck bed carpet is just one way to protect your pickup bed from damage. When you consider a carpet liner costs about half of what a spray on liner will set you back, it’s worth a look. Here’s where a carpet liner works best.

1. Cushioning.

Certainly the strong point for carpet liners must be cushioning. That includes cushioning for cargo. For example, furniture hauling on a carpet bed mat makes for a low-stress project. The cushion cover might work for people too. If your projects call for moving around on your knees on the truck bed, carpet makes for the easiest way to handle that too.

2. Protection.

Protection for truck beds means more than just scratch elimination, it must include dent-stopping too. Carpet liners offer dent protection, not as good as a rubber mat, but some protection. Stopping dents matter because dents are so much harder to repair than scratches are.

3. Skids.

Some bedliners, like plastic liners, are quite slippery. Sometimes that’s just what you want. But if you need cargo to stay put, a carpet liner may be just the way to make that happen. Carpet holds things where you put them and stops slides and slips.

4. Truck caps and tonneau covers.

The perfect place for carpet liners is under a tonneau cover or truck cap. Even though carpet is marine grade and can take the weather, the better place for carpet is under a cover. With either a tonneau or a cap over a carpet, you get a truck bed just about like a giant truck. It becomes very useful and well as projecting that luxury look and feel.

5. Cheap.

For a custom bed liner that has so many advantages, carpet liners are very cheap. At only about half the cost of a spray on liner, these are quite a bargain. Choose a full bed liner like the DualLiner brand or just get a simple mat to cover the bottom of the bed itself. Either way you go, these are quite the choice for frugal truck owners.

Truck bed carpet works very well for protecting cargo as well as protecting your pickup bed from damage. Not the best choice for really nasty hauling, it’s still tough enough for all weather use and easy to clean with a hose or pressure washer. It’s one of the cheaper choices if you want a full bed protection custom mat. It’s also very useful as an add on mat over a more expensive liner if you just choose a bottom-of-bed type mat.

Truck Components – 5 ways to get the best Bed Liner

June 21, 2010 - 10:14 am Comments Off

Truck bed liners protect your pickup from the damage that any kind of hauling causes. One option is the plastic drop in version. Here’s how plastic linings are better than other types and what you should look for in the best liner.

Spray On For Permanent Protection

Spray on liners often are seen as the premium choice. They certainly rank at or near the most expensive. Professional spray on liners provide a custom, finished look since every liner is a custom fit. The coatings are after all paint coatings, but it is special paint. The material is a two-part, fast drying paint that contains lots of rubbery texture. The guaranteed durability of the liners is partly due to the thickness of the coating. A typical spray on liner takes almost 5 gallons of liquid paint to do the job

For a permanent liner that’s repairable and tough, a spray liner is a great choice.

Plastic May Be Better

That’s because the plastic liners are so tough. Thick plastic material used for these is all but impossible to damage. It protects beds from scratches, but the thick liners also cushion impacts and almost completely eliminate dent damage too. Cheaper than spray liners, plus easily changed if it gets beat up or damaged.

Carpet For Padding

Carpet bed liners work especially well under tonneau covers or bed caps. Carpet makes the best bed liners if you need cushioning and if you like non-skid material. Not that carpet liners aren’t tough, it’s just that carpet is harder to keep clean if the hauling gets grimy.

Roll On For Cheap

You can get the look of a sprayed on liner for a lot less money by doing it yourself. A roll on bed liner looks almost just like a professional version. It’s not as durable though, simply because do-it-yourself liners aren’t nearly as thick. Though not as tough as the pro version, it may be plenty good enough especially for older pickups that mostly need a freshening up.

What About Mats?

Now here’s a deal. Cheap bed mats, either carpet or rubber, can protect as well in some cases as much more expensive choices. In fact it makes sense to put a mat over a more expensive liner just to protect the liner itself. Mats are the cheap liner that protects even better than many more expensive ones.

Truck liners protect truck bed paint and let you use your truck like a truck. Each liner design has best applications. No matter what your Or budget, there is a truck that will help protect the liner.

Fighting words and life and sleep

June 21, 2010 - 10:13 am Comments Off

Sleep lyrics and my problem started about 4 years ago. I'm not sure at first with me. I also had a contract job, I lived and slept in a caravan in a caravan.

Symptoms of sleep snore of the lyrics, but I may have already received my snoring at night, people said. Sleepy while driving on the right side more than a day, was really horrible in jamyimyeone>truck during the day.

One time while driving on a gravel road I fell asleep behind the wheel and when I woke up I was doing about 60 mph; next to the road, fortunately their was no ditches or rocks next to the road.

My boss heard about this and forced me to go for tests. During sleep studies it was confirmed that I did have sleep apnea. The specialist prescribed a c-pap machine but after trying it for a while I could not cope with it.

Due to this my boss fired me; he said that I was a danger to myself and other people and should rather not work anymore. My sleep apnea was so bad that I could not drive my car anymore as I fell asleep behind the steering wheel after a couple of miles.

About two years ago my snoring became so bad that my wife could not sleep anymore, she woke me many times during the night, one night when she woke me for the umpteenth time I went to the lounge and fell asleep in my favorite arm chair.

The next morning she told me that my snoring did not wake her during the rest of the night. Since that night I haven’t slept on a bed again.

My health improved steadily and I can honestly say that sleep apnea does not affect me anymore and I can now drive my own car again. During the last year I have on numerous occasions done trips of 400 miles per day and did not feel sleepy at any time.

If you have sleep apnea try sleeping in a chair, you should feel the improvement in your health after three months. I am not Handling these situations, sleep lyrics, but I believe it has helped.

Pain without Drugs

THE LEG I DIDN’T HAVE JUST KEPT ON HURTING

“I don’t know how this works, but it does.” Those were the words of Bill twelve weeks after his first visit to Healthy Visions Wellness Center where hypnosis was used to teach Bill how to control his Phantom Limb Pain. Prior to this, Bill was taking pain medicine two to three times a week. Sometimes the pain was so unbearable that he went to the emergency room for intravenous pain medication.

On a beautiful fall day fifteen years ago Bill went deer hunting at a favorite spot in the mountains near Huntsville, Tennessee. As he reached the area where he would set up his deer stand he was taken down by a severe deep cramping and burning pain in his right leg. A pain so severe that it brought tears to his eyes and a scream of agony from deep inside. A pain so intense that he was unable to walk or even stand. He was down and lying on his back with the only way down the mountain was to use his rifle and good left leg to push himself inch by inch. Moving only a few inches with each desperately painful push for what seemed an eternity. “I pushed with my rifle just like I learned to do in the army when crawling

under machine gun fire,” Bill said. “Of course crawling under that machine gun fire and concertina wire wasn’t nothing compared coming down that mountain thinking I was dying of pain.” The pain was unrelenting and after what seemed to be a life time he finally reached where he had parked his truck. Once there, he could neither stand nor pull himself up into the truck. “With nothing else left to do in agony I spread my orange hunting jacket out were it could be seen from the sky and crawled under my truck to….”

Bill and a friend had discussed that they would both be hunting

in the same area of the mountain on the same day. Luckily around lunch time Bill’s friend decided to hike over to where he knew Bill usually parked to have lunch with him. A chill of dread went down his spine when he saw Bill under the truck delirious with pain. He quickly dragged Bill from under the truck and struggled to get him inside. He drove as quickly as he could to Huntsville Hospital where Life Star transported Bill to University Medical Center. Bill is alive today because of his friend.

Bill had a Popetiel Artery Aneurysm, which ruptured and created

a blood clot that stopped the flow of blood to Bill’s leg. His leg was amputated just above the knee that day, but gangrene set in and two days later a second amputation was done that included his hip joint.

For fifteen years following the surgery Bill continued to have

frequent and often severe pain in his amputated leg. Until one

day a friend handed him a business card from Healthy Visions

Wellness Center and suggested he call. Since his initial visit on March 2, 2005 he has been pain free.

Why and how does this work? No one really knows, but when we

do something that creates pain such as a burn or a cut the pain

is sent by an electrical signal to the brain. There is no pain until this signal gets to the brain. Stop the signal and you stop the pain. A local anesthetic is a good example. The body has the ability to create its on anesthetic and for Bill and many other amputees the memory of their pain persists and the subconscious mind can not tell the difference from a memory and the real thing. However, when we change the memory or the thought we change the brains response. One way to experience this is to imagine or pretend you are eating a lemon. For most people that tart, tangy and sometimes pain in the jaw occurs as if a lemon is actually being eaten. That is because the memory or the thought of the lemon to the subconscious mind is real so it responds as it would to the actual eating of the lemon. It

creates the same biochemical, physiological response as if the

lemon was actually eaten. So, change the thought and you change

the response.

This worked with Bill by teaching him how to think back to a time and remember how the leg felt before the trauma and amputation. The subconscious mind does not know the difference between what is real and what is imagined, which in Bill’s case by changing a thought and uncovering a past memory he was able to change pain into comfort.

Bill was also instructed to imagine a switch between the

amputated leg and the brain. Since there is no pain until the message gets to the brain he was able to switch off the pain signal keeping it from reaching the brain. He was also taught many other techniques to stop the possibility of future pain; including pretending that he had a TV remote control that he could use to turn the pain up or down. He could hit the mute button or simply hit the off button to stop the pain. He also used the remote to let him travel into the future to see himself doing the things he likes to do and doing them comfortably.

When Bill went to the doctor he was asked, “what is your pain on a scale of 0-10.” From the first session at Healthy Visions Wellness Center he was taught how to think of his pain scale as his comfort scale. He was seen five times prior to the writing of this article during which he learned self-hypnosis, guided imagery and creative visualization to manage his stress, his comfort and his quality of life. Because all hypnosis is self-hypnosis he easily learned how to control his pain and not let it control him.

I am always astounded, as I was with Bill, at how hypnosis can

make such major changes in people’s lives. I saw it happen so

often while on active duty with the Navy especially as staff

member at the Navy Medical Center Portsmouth Virginia Pain

Management Center. While there I had the opportunity to work

with many amputees and other types of pain. I watched people

who had pain for 2 years, 10 years and even as long as 15 Year
Bill, or completely free from pain or to reduce pain, but for their ability to lead productive lives and, you know.

Camping – Fun and adventure

June 19, 2010 - 10:10 am Comments Off

Camping for most people means a tent and sleeping on a mat on the ground. If that doesn’t really appeal to you, then camping in an RV is what you need. It is the ultimate camping adventure.

RV’s come in many sizes and shapes. They start with campers that fit in the back of a pickup truck. These can have full kitchens, beds, a shower and toilet in them.

Next there are van conversions called Class B motorhomes that are basically a cargo van converted into a camping vehicle. These can have a raised roof for more head room. They also contain the same amenities as the truck camper.

Next up is the Class C motorhome. The front end looks like a pickup truck, but the similarity ends there. There is a sleeper extension over the cab and the back end looks like any motorhome you are probably familiar with. Basically a cargo box with windows, but much prettier. The Class C has all the amenities of home. A kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living room. You could live in a Class C.

The next step us is the Class A motorhome. This is roomiest of all motorized RVs. These motorhomes are like a mini one bedroom apartment. They are fully self contained. From the queen sized bed to the dinette that seats four people you find luxury. A refrigerator and stove are complimented by a microwave oven. You might even have an ice maker capable of making over 20 pounds of ice a day. Party ready!

If that weren’t enough choices, there are still the trailers. First is the travel trailer you can pull behind a larger sedan or SUV. Then the 5th wheel trailer that hooks into the back of a pickup truck. Both of these trailers are equally as luxuriant as the best motorhome. An advantage is they cost a lot less.

You can buy new or used. Whichever way you choose, you should do a lot of research on the internet first. Learn all you can about RVing. There are RV forums that you can find by doing a search in your favorite search engine.

When you decide that an RV might be for you, attend an RV show or two. There are major RV shows at fairgrounds and stadiums where many dealers and vendors are selling every type of RV there is. There are also local RV shows usually put on by one or two dealers to show and sell some of their inventory.

If you really are not sure you would like to spend $40,000 or $250,000 on a hobby you are not sure you would like, buy a used RV. You can get into RVing in a 34 foot More than $ 10,000 for the class of engines that I've used.

And much more cost-effective engine. 7 miles a gallon, you many gallons of 57-9 miles per large van in the mid-1990s, the reality and the mystery can be achieved is up to 12 miles per gallon.

R. camping fun adventures await you and your family.
